Resilience, Psychosocial Adjustment, and Psychological Distress in Women who have Undergone Mastectomy

Petar Daneski, North Macedonia

Abstract

The main goal of this research is to examine the relationship between resilience and psychosocial adjustment and psychological distress in women who have undergone mastectomy due to breast cancer, as well as to study the relationship between the times elapsed since the mastectomy and resilience. The sample consists of 133 respondents, women with mastectomy, active in Facebook groups "Cancer Winners" and "We are Love," aged 24 to 76 years. The instruments (BSI-18, CD-RISC 10, BIRS) were administered to the respondents online. The results indicate a statistically significant negative correlation between resilience and psychological distress, as well as a statistically significant negative correlation between resilience and psychosocial adjustment. However, no statistically significant correlation was found between the times elapsed after mastectomy and resilience.
